"Donny," by Jim Nedelak
8 x 11 1/4 - charcoal drawing
$1800 Framed
I was fortunate enough to meet Don a number of years ago through firefighter sports. He is an unbelievably funny man. His raspy voice and never ending supply of jokes and one-liners has had friends laughing into the wee hours of the night.

Don was born in 1940. He apprenticed in an iron foundry until 1965 when he joined the Victoria Fire Department. He retired in 1997 as a Battalion Chief.

I always wanted to draw Don and finally got around to it after getting the right reference photos. As is typical of his sense of humour, he asked that I make him  “prettier” than his old pal (and another subject of mine), Rotten Ralph.

In 2010 Don had a mild stroke which left him partially paralyzed on his right side, and to make things worse he had a bad fall requiring a hip replacement. As of this writing in 2012, he is recovering from the surgery, with a positive attitude.
